You’ll learn all the steps of video
editing, digital postproduction
(offline editing, AVID digital editing,
video output, graphic planning,
audiovisual production and
electronic video signals)
as well as all the technical
and artistic tasks related to editing.

Course Objectives

  • To learn the fundamentals of electronic video signals. 
  • To organize your workspace.
  • To learn offline editing.
  • To learn the technical and artistic tasks related to editing.
  • To master editing various complete audiovisual productions.


The postproduction environment

  • Examine how media is structured and the way it works
  • Analyze the various workflows used in different productions
  • Organization and teamwork
  • Know the market requirements for a position in the video production industry


The basics of television

  • Master the technical standards of television
  • Develop the skills to handle certain technical problems


Video editing

  • Handle pre-editing and editing for a production
  • Know all the functions of an AVID editing system
  • Organize procedures when working on a project
  • Understand that editing is a form of language and of mass communication. Use images, sound and text to convey a message


Compositing

  • Master the concepts of graphic design as they relate to video editing
  • Combine the use of complementary tools (Photoshop, AE, Combustion BCC, etc.)
  • Master image compositing for multi-track video (Concepts and methods of effects compositing).


Editing and sound mixing

  • Work with multiple audio tracks (mixing and digitization)
  • Learn how to use audio consoles, equalizers, compressors, etc.
  • Acquire the skills needed to build the right audio ambiance for different types of scenes


New media

  • DVD authoring
  • Compression for the Web and other formats

  • Patch bay, mixer and audio monitor


Videotape

  • Betacam SP and HDV player/editors
  • XDCAM HD and XDCAM EX players


Cameras

  • Sony 3CCD Betacam, HDV, and HDD cameras
  • ARRI LIGHT lighting, microphone, tripods, etc.


Software

  • Avid Media Composer, Boris RED
  • Boris Continuum Complete, Sorenson
  • Adobe Production (AE, Photoshop, Illustrator)

*Each student will be assigned a hard drive (approx. 600 GB) for the duration of the training.


Diploma

Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC).


Duration

One year (three 15-week semesters). 735 hours of training in total.
